Crack oil pressure switch

Hey guys I have a kt17 on a 417-A that I noticed the oil pressure switch was leaking. Unfortunately when I got the new switch and installed it I ended up over tightening the switch and fitting and putting a small crack down the side of the port on the engine block! its got such a small amount of

The first indication of trouble may be a flickering oil pressure warning light or a low oil Of course, any cracks in the oil galleys, leaking galley plugs, or leakage is okay, the next thing to check would probably the oil pressure sending unit. Carefully clean the stripped hole in the oil filter base to remove any loose metallic particles that could contaminate the sensor. If the housing is cracked at the  Low oil pressure or loss of oil pressure can be caused by a low oil level in the the engine (leaky head gasket or cracks in the head or block), a stuck thermostat, safety switch detects a difference in pressure between the brake circuits when   I've been chasing on oil leak ever since we bought our 02 CRV. I finally determined it was coming from the oil pressure switch. I didn't realize the hole had been cracked from over tightening by the prior owner. So naturally I tryed to tighten out the leak. I heard and felt the crack pop 2007 Subaru Forester: I cracked my right head by tightening down the oil pressure switch. Before reading this thread, I put a good dab of Ultra Black high-temp RTV sealant on the exterior of the head where the crack is visible, as well as the threads of the pressure switch, then threaded it back in.

One of these components is the transmission oil pressure switch, which is designed to monitor the amount of pressure built up inside the transmission case as fluid flows through a series of chambers and channels to permit the transmission to smoothly shift gears. Like any other sensor, it can become damaged or simply wear out over time.

Be aware that the actual oil pressure switch is not 1/8" NPT, but rather 1/8" BSPT, which is a different pitch. So, if you tap it to the NPT, you will not be able to use the standard pressure switch. The car will run fine; you will just have no idiot light in the dash if you run low on oil.

The threading for the oil pressure switches is tapered. It is quite possible to over-tighten the pressure switch and ruin the threads, or worse. If you google, you'll see that this problem is quite common and not limited to Subarus. That looks like the variable valve lift oil pressure sensor at the front of the left-side head. It's in the oil control passage going to the variable valve lift mechanism on the camshaft, monitoring the pressure to the mechanism, where low pressure = low lift, and high pressure = high lift.

The main job of an engine oil pressure sensor is to keep track of the oil pressure in the vehicle and then transmit this information straight to the combination meter or the instrument panel. If the vehicle has an electronic control module, then the oil pressure switch will send this information to the module where it can be calculated.
